Organization for International Economic Relations
Building Bridges and Leading the Way
Looking back on six decades of highly varied activities, always building
bridges and leading the way: in 2008, the OIER – the Organization for
International Economic Relations – celebrated its 60th anniversary.
The OIER is proud of its sixty-year history of successful international
networking as a competent partner and a pioneer in the development and
promotion of global economic processes. For 35 years, the organization has held
consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.
Founded in Vienna in 1947 by a group of distinguished personalities from
different countries, all of them deeply committed to the idea of European
integration, the organization – originally called Danube European Institute –
has evolved to become a platform for the establishment and extension of
economic and trade relations crossing all borders.
Extending its scope far beyond its original objective the OIER has become a
worldwide forum for the discussion of economic, scientific and political
issues. Its main activities are aimed at identifying global trends and
important future-oriented issues relating to sustainability, innovation,
communication and mobility.
Over the years, the OIER has been recognized on frequent occasions for
its achievements in the field of international cooperation. The organization
has always advocated the cause of European integration and has contributed
substantially to the historic transformation of the European political
landscape. Always prepared to take up new challenges, the OIER will continue to
play an innovative and constructive role in the dynamic process of far-reaching
global economic, technological and social change in our time.
